Ingredients for Chewy Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies

  • All-purpose flour or 1 to 1 gluten free flour: you can make these cookies the classic way or opt for some gf flour if you need!
  • Vegan butter: this acts as your butter in your classic cookie recipe
  • Unsweetened applesauce: this helps your cookies gooey! There is no egg in this recipe so this ingredient is a must!
  • Granulated sugar & brown sugar: I find that mixing these two gives you an amazing flavor AND texture. You can use coconut sugar here for a refined sugar version!
  • Baking soda & baking powder: I used both in this recipe
  • Vanilla extract: a little goes a long way, but it doesn’t hurt to splash a little more in the dough!

Cookie Baking equipment

Hand mixer or whisk: this makes sure the vegan butter, applesauce, and sugar gets combined properly. The whisk will come in handy if you are melting the butter.

Bowl: You will just need one bowl for this recipe!

Parchment paper: This ensure that the cookies don’t stick to your pan and spread too much. You will not chill to chill the dough, which makes the cookies spread easier.

FAQs

Can I freeze these cookies?

These chewy vegan chocolate chip cookies take only a a few minutes to prepare and will be great to stash in your freezer. For best results, scoop your cookie dough onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Place the cookie sheet in the freezer until the dough has firmed up (about 30 minutes). Then transfer the cookie dough balls to a plastic bag and store in the freezer. When you are ready to eat them, preheat your oven and bake the cookies straight from the freezer. You may need to add an extra baking minute or two!

How long do I have to bake cookies?

Baking these cookies at 350F for just 10-12 minutes will give these cookies a soft, chewy center and crips outside. But everyone’s oven is different, so make sure you keep an eye on them!

What do I do if my dough is really sticky?

That is fine! This dough will be on the softer side anyway! You can chill the dough for 30 minutes before scooping your dough onto your baking tray.

Is vegan cookie dough safe to eat?

I am someone who LOVES eating raw cookie dough. The good thing about vegan cookie dough is that it does not contain eggs! However, it does have raw flour which can be a source of E. Coli!

But you do what you feel best! I am not one to crush your cookie dough dreams!
