Gooey Hawaiian Roll Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients

For the Rolls

  • 1 12 count Hawaiian sweet rolls

For the cinnamon filling:

  • ½ cup 100 g brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup 56 g unsalted butter, very soft
  • 1 tbsp heavy cream or milk
  • Pinch of salt

Buttery Topping

  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

For the Glaze

  • 3 oz cream cheese softened
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  • Slice the rolls. Using a serrated knife, slice the entire slab of rolls in half horizontally (keep them connected).
  • Place the bottom half into the baking dish.
  • Make the filling. In a bowl, mix, softened butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, cream, salt
  • Spread the filling evenly over the bottom layer of rolls. Place the top layer back on.
  • Add buttery topping (this is KEY). Mix melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Brush or pour over the tops of the rolls.
  • Bake for 22–25 minutes, until: tops are golden and filling is melted and gooey
  • Beat together cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk until creamy and pourable.
  • Spread or drizzle glaze over the warm rolls.
