Chocolate Chip Snack Cake with Chocolate Frosting

Ingredients

  • ½ cup 113 g unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup 150 g granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup 50 g light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs room temp
  • ½ cup sour cream KEY for moisture
  • ¼ cup milk
  • tsp vanilla extract
  • cups 190 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup chocolate chips

Chocolate Frosting

  • ½ cup 113 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups 240 g powdered sugar
  • cup 30 g unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 –3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line an 8x8 or 9x9 pan.
  • In a bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  • Mix in eggs one at a time, then add sour cream, milk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Stir in chocolate chips.
  • Pour batter into pan and smooth the top. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cake cool completely before frosting.

Make the frosting

  • Beat butter until smooth.
  • Add powdered sugar and cocoa powder.
  • Mix in milk, vanilla, and salt until creamy and spreadable.
  • Spread frosting over cooled cake.
